And this is exactly the segment that has risen more than the rest of the market. We went through every model under 5,000 lei in the catalog and picked the ones worth spending money on right now.

Why do cheap phones get pricier faster than flagships?
One of the main reasons is memory. In its 30 September 2026 report, TrendForce writes that in Q4 contract prices for conventional DRAM will rise 10–15% quarter on quarter, and NAND prices 15–20%. Memory makers are shifting capacity to AI servers, so there is less mobile memory to go round, and stocks of cheap chips are running out.
In a 20,000 lei flagship, memory is a small part of the cost. In a 3,000 lei phone it is a noticeable share, and any rise in chip prices shows up on the price tag straight away. As The National wrote in October 2026, the phenomenon already has a name: "chipflation". More on the memory crunch in The 2026 memory crisis: why PCs and phones cost more.
Which phone under 5,000 lei should you choose?
Under 2,000 lei: Redmi A5 4/128 GB (from 1,848 lei): the cheapest option for calls, messaging and banking. A good fit for elderly parents or as a second phone.
Under 3,000 lei: Redmi 15C 4/128 GB (from 2,799 lei) or Redmi A7 4/64 GB (from 2,739 lei). For almost the same price, the Redmi 15C has twice the storage, 128 GB versus 64 GB, so it is the better deal.
Under 3,500 lei: Redmi 15C 8/256 GB (from 3,238 lei): 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for 3,238 lei. Enough for photos, video and apps for years.
Under 4,000 lei: Redmi Note 15 4G 6/128 GB (from 3,979 lei) or POCO C85 8/256 GB (from 3,609 lei). The Note is a step up the range; the POCO gives you more memory for less money.
Under 5,000 lei: Redmi Note 15 4G 8/256 GB (from 4,499 lei): the only popular model that has not got more expensive since summer.

Redmi 15C and POCO C85 got cheaper at the end of October
There is some good news, even if it is patchy. In the second half of October the Redmi 15C and POCO C85 saw the biggest cuts in this segment, and the new price held until the end of the month:
| Store | Product | 16.10.2026 | 31.10.2026 | Cut |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bomba | Xiaomi Redmi 15C 4/128GB Blue | 3,499 lei | 2,799 lei | −20.0% |
| Bomba | Xiaomi Redmi 15C 8/256GB Blue | 3,999 lei | 3,399 lei | −15.0% |
| PandaShop | POCO C85 8/256GB Green | 3,899 lei | 3,609 lei | −7.4% |

| XStore | Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 4G 6/128GB Violet | 4,099 lei | 3,989 lei | −2.7% |
| PandaShop | Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 8/256GB Violet | 4,657 lei | 4,549 lei | −2.3% |
| XStore | POCO C81 4G 4/64GB Black | 2,799 lei | 2,789 lei | −0.4% |
At Bomba the 2,799 lei price applies to all three colours of the Redmi 15C 4/128 GB. With cheap phones every hundred lei counts, so we kept only the cuts that stuck, not the one-day ones.
Black Friday is unlikely to bring back summer prices
Honestly, we would not wait. TrendForce forecasts another rise in memory prices in Q4, and cheap phones have almost no room for discounts. Benchmarks: 2,799 lei for the Redmi 15C 4/128 GB, 3,238 lei for the 8/256 GB and 3,979 lei for the Redmi Note 15 4G. The summer price of 2,419 lei for the Redmi 15C, we fear, will not return in the coming months.
We compared in-stock offers in the PriceList.md catalog on 01.11.2026 (the comparison with summer uses 15.07 and 31.10.2026). When a store's price was far below the others and looked like a matching error, we left it out.
